Kenia and the Kids!

Kenia dropped by Boyd Community Center where she introduced the kids to Brazilian Carnival! They learned a few phrases in Portuguese, and sang along with Kenia on a track from her forthcoming CD - Kenia Celebrates Dorival Caymmi. Then it was time to make a carnival mask - feathers, beads, sequins and lots and lots of glue were put to good use and some really beautiful designs came to life in thirty short minutes. Kenia and the kids then made percussion instruments using old drink cans and rice and tape, and finally - a grand parade complete with percussion and singing!
What a fun afternoon!

Starting The New Year With The 'Baddest Trio" Of All!

Kenia inaugurated the Backstage Bar for 2010 with a fine show featuring Eric Susoeff on guitar, Tony DePaolis on bass and Tom Wendt on drums.

The set was arranged as a journey through songs Kenia has recorded with Salsamba, both in past recordings as well as the brand new Mojito Blues, and Tony DePaolis' new CD as well as revisiting songs from Simply Kenia back to her first recording, Claudio Roditi's Red On Red.

On Tuesday, October 27th at 8 pm, Kenia will be putting on a once-in-a lifetime show - a tribute to the music of Dorival Caymmi!

Joining Kenia on this special night will be Airto Moreira (Winner of the 2009 Jazz/Fusion Percussion Award from Drum! Magazine), Fernando Merlino on piano, Leo Traversa on bass and Eric Susoeff on guitar.

The concert is at the Cabaret Theatre, 655 Penn Avenue.

VIP tickets are available for a meet-the-artists pre-show reception. These tickets will also give you preferred seating, and a digital copy of Kenia's forthcoming CD!
