Kenia dropped by Boyd Community Center where she introduced the kids to Brazilian Carnival! They learned a few phrases in Portuguese, and sang along with Kenia on a track from her forthcoming CD - Kenia Celebrates Dorival Caymmi. Then it was time to make a carnival mask - feathers, beads, sequins and lots and lots of glue were put to good use and some really beautiful designs came to life in thirty short minutes. Kenia and the kids then made percussion instruments using old drink cans and rice and tape, and finally - a grand parade complete with percussion and singing!
What a fun afternoon!
